Garden Design - Nunhead, London SE15

This is a fairly organic design, featuring a two interconnected circular areas of hard flooring to provide ample room for seating and relaxation while maximising the available planting space.
The first of the two circles sits outside the back of the house where the side return meets the garden proper - allowing the client the opportunity to develop the back of the house with French doors. The existing level of soil will be extended to give the user 1.5metres of ground level space, where upon a retaining wall will hold back the soil and provide a attractive raised bed built from dry stone walling. This dry stone walling allows insects and other creatures to hide amongst its rocks and also the opportunity should the client wish to include some alpine amongst the rocks. The two Indian Sandstone circles (client to chose which colour) are joined by a winding path. A step up from the first circle onto this random lay Indian Sandstone path, edged with cobble setts, will take you on a journey through densely planted beds, over a bridge cited over a butyl-lined wildlife pond.
To the left hand side of the path a kidney shaped lawn is cited surrounded by herbaceous borders.
The wildlife pond will be unfiltered - but should the client wish to include a filtration system one could be installed at later date. Butyl-lined, it will be constructed to be of maximum benefit to wildlife with a gully to include Bog garden style plant, allowing creatures somewhere to hide an to give easy access out of the pond.
The sideway to the left of the house will be renovated with random lay paving in the clients chosen sandstone. A bamboo screen to the right of the house to hide the ugly fence panel will also be erected.
The area in the bottom left hand corner of the garden will be set aside for the existing shed, and will be accessible from the sandstone path branching off once it passes the second sandstone circle.
The planting scheme places emphasis on plants which attract butterflies and other insects This wild-life oriented planting scheme will provide the finishing touches to the space. Featuring hot colours, reds and yellows with splashes of purple, the flora has been chosen to provide year round interest and consists almost exclusively of perennials and evergreen shrubs and trees to keep maintenance to a minimum.
