The design takes inspiration from traditional Japanese gardens to create a simple yet stylish space.
A series of raised planters, rendered and painted white, will offer the space a sense of dynamics and create interest in three dimensions. The construction of planters will also serve as a practical solution to the problem of the excess soil currently in the space.
A planter containing tall bamboo will be situated at the bottom of the garden. This will help to soften the potentially imposing amount of structure in this area, and will also serve as a fairly effective screen from the houses and flats beyond as the garden matures.
A decked area with the decking slats laid in an angular pattern will feature directly outside the back door, from which a long pathway stretching down the length of the garden will run off centre down the space. The pathway will join a second decked area laid alongside the main fish tank.This area will also feature a pergola stretching the width of the garden over both decking and fish tank, which will be roofed with bamboo screening to provide necessary shade and protection to the fish in the tank. Evergreen climbers will be trained upon the structure, with deciduous climbers trained to climb along the fence.
Triangular planters constructed from rendered building blocks will add form and structure down each side of the space and will provide a suitable platform for the inclusion of a variety of soft landscaping.
The planting itself will feature structural specimen plants, both soft and sensuous and strong in form and colour. A mixture of orange and white flowering perennials mixed with hardy evergreen shrubs and conifers will compliment the bold layout of the garden and help to create year round interest within the space.
