Old materials mingle with new with the use of stainless steel planters on cobbles, and slate chippings bordering decking
Existing fences will be replaced - the issue of privacy is tackled with the addition of trellis on top of the replacement fences
The planting palette consists of hardy and half-hardy specimens with an emphasis on foliage. Architectural planting features heavily in the space, juxtaposing giant and imposing gunneras with delicate acers. A combination of evergreen and semi evergreen plants will intertwine with scented white blooms to give year round interest to the space
The choice of planting will be used to create the 'WOW' factor, with show stoppers such as 'Dicksonia antarctica' and 'Cortaderia selloana'. A sense of perspective will be achieved with plants growing up through the decking to create the impression of different levels within the space
The garden will be styled sympathetically, taking into account the style of interior of the house, the client's tastes, and the form and location of the property
A spacious cobbled area will give the space a lived-in feeling, with the addition of large established plants to further detract from the sense of 'newness' that is so often present in a recent build
The layout of the garden uses the idea of 'screening' with materials and plants to create different areas in the garden and generate the illusion of space
