The clients have lived in their property for a couple of years. The garden is predominantly paved with old uninspiring concrete slabs and has little ofinterest to offer. As a consequence the clients rarely use the space. They would like a design that provides the adults with an attractive andpractical solution suitable for entertaining and relaxation, while also accommodating the needs of their young son
To the right of the patio doors will be a large bespoke bar come storage area. This will comprise a bar top with integrated storage beneath that is large enough to accommodate two adult bikes, with a tall slim cupboard along the right hand boundary to store a folding table and chairs plus cushions for their outdoor sofa.
A timber structure constructed over the bar unit will incorporate a wine rack, shelving for glasses, and a decorative outdoor light to illuminate the bar at night. The front faces of the bar and tall cupboard will be clad with Perspex from the ‘Naturals’ range. The rest of the structure will be constructed from timber.
A large area of artificial lawn in the centre of the garden allows for playand sunbathing while giving the space a dash of low-maintenance year round greenery.
To the rear of the garden will be patio constructed fromcontemporary grey porcelain tiles edged with black porcelain, positioned to catch the mid to late afternoon sun.
The boundaries will be replaced with contemporary horizontal slatted fences, painted with Cuprinol Garden Shades ‘Urban Slate’ for a stylish and uniform backdrop to the garden. A large outdoor mirror installed on the rear boundary will help to create theillusion of depth to the space.
The right hand side of the garden will feature a square timber pergola, which could accommodate a swing chair and barbecue.
The planting scheme will be architectural with as much year round greenery as possible. A tall cordy line australis will add height and an established feel to the design.
