Country Garden Design in East London
This client has lived at the property for several years. She has had the interior renovated, including an extension to the back of the dwelling, and has now turned her attentions to the garden. The garden is shared and split 50-50 with the upstairs neighbours. The client owns the section of the garden closest to the house, but also wishes to be able to view the garden beyond. Apart from a split level deck (which is in good condition) adjoining the house there is little of interest in the garden.
The design follows a cottage courtyard theme. The existing decking will remain. A large 3.6m sandstone paved circle will be installed in the centre of the place, with an Acer planted in the middle to create a focal point. Sandstone slab stepping stones will be installed into a gravel mulch around the central patio. Each of the four corners of the main section of the client’s garden will feature a railway sleeper raised bed 1400mm square x 600mm high. To the left of the space, a laser cut patterned Cor-Ten (weathering) steel screen will provide a decorative divide between the client’s garden and the one beyond. Opposite this on the right-hand side will be timber arbour/seat. The right-hand side of the space will also benefit from new fences (client’s section of the garden only) and painted in Cuprinol Garden Shades ‘Wild Eucalyptus’ (a classic grey green shade.) Planting in the garden will be soft and blousy in a cottage theme. Evergreens will form the backbone and provide winter interest, while seasonal perennials will give blooms and scent in the summer. Creeping ground cover plants will also weave their way across the gravel in-between the paving slabs to soften the hard landscaping.
“Highly recommend Earth Designs. I had a small jungle in Walthamstow. Kat came around, took on board my ideas and conjured them into a magical place. Full details and drawings came promptly for my approval before Matt and the team came in and did a brilliant, speedy job. Everything had to be brought through the house, but they made sure they were careful and no mess! Brilliant service.”
